Docent Orientation and Training Sign-Ups

Have you always wished you could be a docent (volunteer naturalist)? Help others enjoy the wonders of nature and the area’s cultural history? Now you can by attending one of our Docent Orientation and Training Sign-Up seminars on Sunday, Dec. 21, Jan. 18 and Feb. 15 at the Nature Center at Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park.

In preparation for our upcoming Docent Training (March 13 - 14, 2026), we are holding three, no-obligation Docent Orientation Days. These sessions will include a presentation and an introduction to the Nature Center, along with an overview of our public and school programs. A Q&A session will follow to address any questions you may have!

We can help you decide if you’d like to help staff the Nature Center on weekends (12 PM to 4 PM), work on the Native Plant Trail and Gardens, help us lead school groups on the trails during weekdays (9 AM to 12 PM) or find your own unique way to contribute. We encourage you to arrive early at 1 pm to participate in the docent-led walk, "Do California Native Plants Need Winter Coats?" This session is complimentary and includes light refreshments.

We look forward to welcoming you and helping you decide how you can make a meaningful impact!
